Still shave with a old fashion straight razor?

    I bought a nice old German one a couple of years ago, but I am afraid to use it.

    I have a few straight razors passed on from my Grandpa, but I could never use them myself. My kids would make some noise or sneak up on me, and I'd kill myself with it. Even without the kids factor......I would definitely drop it on my foot at some point. Yep, whoever invented the modern safety razor must have been thinking of people like me.

    The last time I used one it looked like I was working in a butcher shop. Disposables work fine on my face.

    Last time I even saw one used was in the barber shop when I was a kid.I remember the barbers giving the razor a few quick stokes on the leather strap and commence shaving guys.

    I live too far from the closest hospital. The only time a straight razor has ever touched my skin is at the barbershop. I used to appreciate the way they maintained their razors with the strop but now they use a razor with a disposable blade. Kinda like this one;

    Probably works just as good but it just ain't the same. Bob

    I only did one time just because I felt the need to do it at least once I bought one at a garage sale and well had to try it out . no blood but some sweat LOL

    but think of the millions of times they were / are used to shave with . just call me chicken 🐔

    I have at least 23 straight razors in my collection, not one of them have ever touched my face.

    Of course I have NEVER had to shave.

    No hair on my cheeks until I was over 50, hair clippers makes fast work of what I have now.

    Some have said I must be part Indian.

    I use an old straight razor for cutting patches for my muzzle loading rifles.

    My dad was also my barber when I was a kid. He had the set up of a straight razor and strop that was given him by his father but used an electric clipper on us kids. Thankfully, I was too young to have whiskers back then! Dad told me stories about how it felt to have your behind tanned with a razor strop! Again, I was thankful I only felt the rath of the BELT from his britches.

    Never done it myself, but nothing feels better than having a skilled barber do it to my neck, although it is hard to find a barber that will still do shaves... I end up using scissors and then throw aways to trim the beard and shave neck about once a year, not a chore I enjoy so currently i'm about 6 months behind on the yearly clean up...
