I just signed up last month. I have part A and B and Freedom Advantage. They pay me back 130.00 towards the part b and give me 75.00 month for OTC stuff. And 25.00 for groceries every month. Check them out.
I have the original Medicare along with VA medical benefits that pay for all of my meds and clinic doctor visits. The new VA program also lets you use civilian medical facilities that are closer to home for most emergencies that my pop up.
My wife is turning 65 next month and is now on regular gov't Medicare but she needs to find a supplement for the 20% costs that part B does not cover. So, I'm all ears to learn anything from anyone who is happy with any particular Medigap plans.
If you are not a vet, Humana is popular.
plan F or plan G--WHEN YOU ARE AT 65--takes care of the 20%---if you have health issues
If you are reasonably healthy, you'll find that what your premiums will cost can just about equal what you might have spent out of pocket. That's definitely true with dental insurance, which is a huge ripoff unless you have horrible teeth.
I would sign up for the minimum required for a year and see what your true medical expenses are. The next Open Enrollment isn't for almost another year anyway. After that, I would assume that any TV ad plan is a scam and shop elsewhere. The money for all those ads comes from inflated premiums, after all.
Be prepared for the monthly premium you will pay to Uncle Sugar. The base amount this year is $170.10 per person per month, up from about $148 a year ago. Then, if you sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan, or other advanced plan, you will pay a monthly amount to insurance as well.
There are lots of plans with "free stuff" but much of it is off-brand and low quality. For example, the small Band-Aid type dressings are so bad they don't stay on. What really matters is what you will owe, or not owe, for your medications. You may not be taking any now, but you will. With a solid plan such as United Healthcare Advantage, nearly all the generics are no cost to you. I used to have Humanna, it was a rip-off. Everything cost extra.
I use an independent insurance agent, one not tied to any company. He and I meet every November to compare available plans and their cost, because prices change constantly. Since I retired in 2012, I have used 3 different healthcare companies and 2 different prescription companies. This year, he has saved my wife and I almost $800 by switching carriers.
My daughter is an account manager for a large insurance company. I was told United Healthcare Advantage fit my needs best.
Thanks all
