Three Black Moons in a Row

The New Moon on January 31, 2022 ushers in a rare series of three Black Moons in some parts of North America. A Black Moon is the second New Moon in a month, but the term is also used if there is no New Moon in a month.

In some North American time zones, covering parts of the US and Canada, there will be two New Moons in January, no New Moon in February, and two New Moons in March.

You won't be able to see the New Moons, but a moonless sky makes for great conditions for night sky viewing.

Re: Snow Moon

FYI - The first full moon of 2022 will be this week on Monday, January 17th at 6:48 pm. January’s full moon is known as the Wolf Moon. At this time of year, wolves are the most active. They thrive in cold and snowy environments. The setting couldn’t be set any better with the cold and snow out currently. Other names for January’s full moon include The Old Moon, or the Moon after Yule. Some tribes recognized this full moon as the Snow Moon.
