Deer that is. They ran across the backyard into the west woods like the devil himself was chasing them. They were going so fast I couldn't tell if there were any bucks in the group. Perfect ending to our dinner.

Yep, 😎. Had eight grazing nonchalantly in the pasture until the dogs caught wind of them. It was nothing but flags after that.
The ones around our place must have turned totally nocturnal. Hardly ever see any around the house in the daytime but the snow is cut up all over in the morning with fresh tracks. I turned off the game cam a month ago, maybe I should have left it on.🤔 Bob
I watched a little "Forkie" Buck in the pasture a few nights ago. Too much brush between us to get a pic. Got me thinking about getting out there in a few weeks and doing some shed hunting !!!
I was out for a mtn bike ride a couple winters ago and went past a meadow, way out in the woods. I heard crashing and branches breaking, and looked to my right to see Mama Moose and her yearling, and they were coming fast. I always thought of them as big ole forest cows, just moseying around nibbling. Nope, this one was in Thoroughbred mode, leaping downed trees like an Olympic steeplechase contender.
I stood there slack jawed for about 5 seconds, then realized they were coming to the only place to escape the clearing, and I was standing in it. I ran for a stand of 3 birch trees and got in it, then looked to see what could possibly have them moving so fast?
Coming behind them was the Granddaddy Of All Moose, with HUGE antlers, and he was running just as fast. Good LORD it was an impressive sight. He could have been clearing VW Beetles with his leaping stride.
They passed by within 5 feet of me, no, that isn't right. They THUNDERED by within 5 feet of me, passing by both sides of my 3 little birches, and just kept going, running off through the woods, crashing and breaking branches until I couldn't hear them anymore.
I got a whole new respect for Moose that day. Dang.
Ran down to the neighbor's to drop off some muffins as he had run a plow up and down our drive yesterday. Took the long way home and saw a dozen whitetail about 300 yards out in the other neighbor's winter wheat field. We have about 11" of snow on the ground so they were digging in. They usually group up like this when I don't have the camera in the truck !😕
That must have been a sight. Didn't see what was chasing them?
Most we have had lately is an even dozen. Wandering around the yard nibbling on the lilacs. Stepped out and said hello, after glancing up at me they didn't seem to care, as they all just kept munching.
I would have liked to have seen the moose and her little one in person, that I got on the game cam in the back yard.
Glad you got to witness those moose and lived to tell us about it Nanuq!
Where you live I'd almost bet that there have been a few obit's over the years listing "cause of death" due to being run over by a moose! 😮
Sadly, that does happen. A moose will corner someone and stomp and kick them to death. At the university a foreign exchange student came out a door and ran into a very irate mama moose with her calf that were feeling cornered. She got him into the corner and killed him right there.
I have moose in my yard all the time, just gotta take a peek out the door before I step out there. If it's not the moose, it's the bears.
Great PICS Nanuq907 !!!
😀
Wife and I were on an atv above the Selway one year when a cow moose walked across the road in front of us. She stopped about 20ft above the road and stood there looking at us. I heard a stick snap below the road and assuming that it was her calf, we hightailed it up the road. She could have covered that distance coming down hill in a heartbeat. No need to press your luck!
