Four people killed in crash of car clocked at 169 mph were from Griffin area, coroner says
UPDATED FEBRUARY 07, 2022 4:16 PM
The four victims killed early Sunday in a fiery, high-speed car crash along Interstate 75 at the High Falls exit were publicly identified by the Monroe County coroner on Monday.
Coroner Joey Proctor said the victims, from Spalding County and the Griffin area, roughly 20 miles northwest of where the wreck happened, were: Oman Ellis, 21; G’nai Foster, 22; Jarvis Redding, 18; and Tyron Barrett, 17.
Proctor said one of the people killed was driving the car, a Dodge Charger Scat Pack, which at one point was said to have reached 169 mph after zooming past sheriff’s deputies early Sunday on the north side of Forsyth.
Sheriff’s officials have said the 12:15 a.m. crash happened when the car shot up the freeway’s northbound off-ramp at High Falls Road and crashed into some woods before catching fire.
It was not clear why the car was traveling at more than twice the 70-mph posted speed limit.
Deputies, however, said they found three guns in the car along with 17 credits cards.

My friends on the NCHP tell me their Chargers will run around 156 wide open.
Maybe he saw the I75 sign and thought it meant the speed limit. Don
Sounds like a nice group of young men.
I wouldn't have one of those Dodge cars. They are always crashing and catching on fire.
I suspect the crime rate will go down by a percent, maybe.

Outstanding... they needed 35 more CC to have a full deck.
Here's another one. Happened at 4:20, appropriately.

With Nunn's connections, he'll be auctioning those guns off next week!
The NCHP clearly didn't order the "scat package".
I would love to have one but it will never happen
as for the fellows on the way to church or community fund raiser its a sad loss for there families however for the rest of us at least me that just saved a bunch of money in housing and court cost
Shilowar used to patrol that section of Rt. 81 & told a story about a high speed chase he was involved in. When he finally got the vehicle stopped, he asked why he tried to run. Driver said that his wife had run off with a Trooper & he thought Shilowar was trying to give her back.
My first cousin made national news back in the 70s. The cops clocked him doing 135 mph in his '63 Corvette on I-75 in Knoxville, TN. They pulled him over and discovered he was wearing a tuxedo and was late to his wedding. Instead of arresting him they gave him an escort the rest of the way to the Church. The headlines read "Get Me to the Church on Time".
We have camped at the State Park just east of that exit many times. It is a flat straight ramp. Those geniuses overbraked and went into the woods. That article is not entirely factual....
On Sunday February 6, 2022 at approximately 12:15 am, a Monroe County Deputy checked a black Dodge Charger Scat Pack, traveling 102 miles per hour, northbound at mile marker 189. Before the Deputy could initiate a traffic stop, the black Charger increased speed to 137 miles per hour. The Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the driver refused to stop, increasing in speed to over 169 miles per hour. The Deputies lost sight of the vehicle. Approximately 5 minutes later, a citizen located a male, on the 198 exit ramp, as well as a Dodge Charger, in the wood line, which was beginning to catch on fire. Monroe County and Butts County Deputies arrived on scene and began attempting to remove passengers and extinguish the fire. The Deputies were able to remove two occupants before they were no longer able to see due to the smoke and flames. Two male subjects were transported by EMS to Navicent Health. Four other males were pronounced deceased on scene. Three guns were located on the scene as well as 17 credit cards. The investigation is still active at this time.
And now you know the REST OF THE STORY.....
Six is better than four.
It would take at least six to "Flintstone" that thing up to 169!
Those enterprising young men must have mowed a lot of lawns to be able to afford a car like that...
Just wondering- where do you find TIRES that will hold together at 169 mph?
Get the properly speed rated tires
