How do you get that purchase alert activated?

I have Capital One and AMEX. Both are activated to send a text to me for every charge when the card is not present.

Both watch what and where I buy things. If there is an unusual charge and the card is not present I will get a text to approve the charge.

Sometimes they decline a charge until I approve it by text.

Saves getting a new card every time some one tries a fraudulent charge.

You must create an online account and then you can set up the text feature.

It is probably wise to keep a "backup" credit card so that in case one gets compromised, you can still pay bills with the backup. Make a charge on the backup once a month to keep it active, and always pay all cards off in full each month if you can.

Discover is a good choice for a backup because they don't charge any annual fees and most places accept them.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

You probably need to give the card services dept. of your bank a call. All of your debit and credit cards should have some sort of fraud prevention on them....I'm certain they do, but how you are notified can vary. We had emails, then texts, then texts and emails. I never know what kind of notice we will get, but we are on the road a lot and they'll flag some random charge and make me verify things from time to time. If you give them a call they can tell you how your fraud prevention notifications are sent to you and if you want something different they can fix that up for you. What I find funny about ours is how they never flag the crazy stuff...but they'll send me a notice for shipping labels we've paid for pretty regularly.

this is the second time this service has worked for me. my son tells me the crook will use the card for a minor purchase such as this was for a test, if it works then they will hit it for the big bucks. actually its the third time, when i was working i had a company cc that i got reimbursed for. i had a charge one time for buying gas in Bogata, Columbia. had a heck of a time trying to convince AMEX i had never been there.
