Maybe because I am getting older, but I think the real reason is a lot of the current things involve people who seem to have trouble speaking effectively or interestingly. I don't know much about Elizibeth Taylor other than she was a famous actress who I seem to remember got married a lot. Here she is on tv with Jonny Carson, and she is enchanting. Well spoken, funny and very beautiful at 60 years old. And Carson was so good at his job, skillfully guiding his guests to discuss personal topics openly.

where I use to work they had purchased copys of lou holtz motivation talks , he was good , but over the years most of us had haed them too many times as every year or two they would have classes and sure as th eworld one of the instructos would dust them off and play the video
they had many speakers come in over the years , but being paid to do it they had there crap together and polished to perfection some interesting some not
one I recall slightly, was a older machinist / engineer who the government hired him to build some special fuel air mix ring used on the rocket engines that NASA launched due to the precision needed he was the man to do it and a interesting old fellow
Carson could take a nobody off the street and provide great entertainment for the viewers! He was that good at his job!
Carson was an excellent "on the spot" comedian.
I miss Johnny, we used to watch him every chance we had.
