Tree climbing gear

Any tree climbers here? I'd like your advice on tree gaffs and climbing saddles. I want something sturdy but
without breaking the bank. I've four or five trees that may require removal this spring.

Why not rent one of those lift bucket things it would be a lot safer.
Why not bring the tree down to you! Don
I climbed telephone poles in the 1970's and early 80's for trees we used latter's. If you are a healthy young man I'd say go for it if not, hire it out, especially for only 4 or 5 trees. The gaffs will cost several hundred dollars for a decent set. I never used a saddle, so not sure on their price... Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Having a friend with access to a bucket truck would be even better😀
Pretty hilly for a cherry picker. Also more expensive. Don, I do want to bring the tree down, just in sections of one or two feet.
Check out pawn shops and facebook.
How big are these "trees"
Good equipment is costly and your well being can't be repaired.
Hire a tree service, let Tom, Dick, and Harry cut the grass.
Check out some of the idiots felling trees on utube, you will see what I am talking about
Tree gaffs have longer spikes than utility gaffs to go through bark.
I helped a friend spray "Egrets' with a red spray in their nests as a school project way back. He then followed their migration path! At any rate he could go up and down those trees with spikes without any hesitancy. I couldn't even figure how to put them on😉
Cutting 2 and 3 foot sections out of 4 or 5 trees is going to give you a whole bunch of chances to get knocked out of the tree. Good luck to you.
Just girdle them and they will come down by themselves eventually.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Don't drink and use a chainsaw
I'm a fair hand with a chainsaw, but I had a 60 ft white oak that had died standing- and it was about 30 ft from my house. Realizing that (a) when a tree is dead, you have a great chance of gaffing into a tree, and having a 3 ft section of bark deciding to slough off with your gaff in it, (b) what my deductibles and co-pays were on my medical insurance, and (c) how much my deductible was on my homeowners insurance, I hired a local tree service- after they gave me a certificate of insurance. Sat on the other side of the yard with a lawn chair and a big glass of iced tea. They took it down, cut it into firewood lengths, chipped the branches, raked the yard, put down some grass seed. Hardest thing I did was write a check.

Had a man come to look at a 48" diameter white oak in our yard, about halfway between the house and the power line. He said he could do it for $200! I asked when he could start, the answer was "Right now". I told him to get his A*^ up the tree, and I'd supply the cold beer when he finished. One hour later the tree was down and cut up. He left tipsy, and I was happy to clean up the mess, and my neighbor got a nice load of firewood out of the deal.
Thanks for the advice one and all.
