I think odds wise, there's a better chance that you're misreading the serial number on the gun than the box and gun being off by a single digit

Well he didn't complain, and he didn't ask for help, so I'm not sure what he wants. But yes, the best bet is don't bid if you don't like something about an auction.
Take a permanent black marker to the 6 and make it an 8, waa laa, matches, interesting though. Must have left factory that way.
