Another .300 Magnum Post

A friend gave me 50 once fired Winchester Magnum cases. He had fired them in his A-bolt and I intend to use them in my TC Icon. I set up to resize them and, on impulse, tried them, as is, in my rifle. They fit. Now, I don't like to overwork brass unnecessarily so I put away my FL sizing die in favor of neck sizing. But I don't have a neck sizer for that cartridge. I was about to order one when I remembered I have dies for the .300 SAUM. Backing the die way out and screwing the de-capper way in, it works! The setup looks weird but, so what, I'm in business.

Is that what they call "redneck ingenuity"?
I grew up on a small farm---we used what we had. In my case, it would be called "farmer engineering".
That should work just fine as long as the case neck reaches into the die far enough to get sized down.
HPD: Neck length of the .300 Winchester is .26". Each turn of a 14 pitch thread die is .07". .26/.07 is 3.71 turns. I placed the case in the shell holder and raised the ram. Then turned the SAUM die down until the neck sizing portion of the die touched the mouth of the case. Backed off the ram and turned the die 3 1/2 turns. Raised the ram sizing the neck of the case. Turned the de-capping stem down until the primer popped out. Backed off the ram and there's a neck sized and de-capped case.
Perfect!
Always nice when someone figures out a way to work with what they have....
