About 15 Mile from our home. Motive for Columbiana Centre mall shooting may be gang retaliation, source says

Sat, April 16, 2022, 5:36 PM·1 min read

The motive in Saturday’s shooting at Columbiana Centre mall that injured 12, including 10 who were shot, may be gang retaliation, a law enforcement source said.

Columbia police say two of those injured are in critical but stable condition, according to the source.

In a news conference late Saturday afternoon, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook did not mention gangs. But he said authorities do not believe that the shooting was random and that those involved knew each other. Holbrook said three people had been detained.

The shooting was “not a situation of a random person that showed up the mall” to shoot people, Holbrook said.

The first 911 call came in at 2:03 p.m., Holbrook said, and the mall was quickly swarmed by hundreds of law enforcement officers.

Columbiana Centre is located in the popular Harbison shopping and entertainment district. Highway exits leading to the mall were blocked Saturday afternoon.

When we were lot younger the malls were a good way to waste a day all the stores and food courts al the good looking gals and just people watching odds of getting in a fight or shot were close to zero

Then the malls population and visitors changed for the worse a lot if not all the old malls we went too have closed up shop gave up on society and the inner city over took them over more trouble stealing. Fighting intimidating shoppers and the criminals moved in forced the stores out lack of paying customers and so on

Then the areas started crying about the stores. Closing up in in ther area. Gee wonder why

I haven't been in a Mall in 20 years at least. The one closest to me is a gun free zone, no guns allowed and its posted at every entrance. I think there have been 2 or 3 shootings there in the last 15 years or so. Those signs work real good.................right

I quit going to malls when all of the stores there had absolutely nothing I wanted to buy. I must not be alone, as I have heard that what stores are there now have about the same atmosphere as a flea market. The two anchor stores at the local place were Sears and K-Mart.

The Internet put the last nail in the shopping mall coffins. People can sit at home and order anything in the world and not have to get dressed to go out and buy gas for their cars and spend the whole day looking for what they need which more times than not you can't find anyway.

There's an Amazon distribution center less than 20 miles from my house and I get a lot of things shipped to me with in 24 hours. If it's an item sold by and shipped by Amazon then it's never more than 48 hours. Yeah yeah I know they're a bunch of liberal no goods but so are the stores you have to drive to.

Just like the Indians must have said to each other, we might as well get used to it, the SOB's are here to stay!

In my hometown East Town Mall that was opened in Knoxville, TN in 1984 has been demolished and an Amazon distribution center is scheduled to be open this year.

"KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The former East Towne Mall/Knoxville Center is coming down.

Construction began last month to make way for an Amazon distribution center. The center is scheduled to open in 2022. The center will fulfill deliveries from Amazon. A similar facility is being built in Alcoa."

The purpetrator will be released on $25,000 bond, released with an ankle monitor, and allowed to return to work.

"We catch people, they serve a little bit of time, they get out and they get right back doing what they normally do and that’s commit crimes," Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said at a recent press conference. "The criminal justice system needs to do better."

Well I just had to run his civil and criminal background. Has a current eviction going on... And... an alternate dispute resolution ADR going on with his attorney against the State of SC and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.. SLED... Seems a SLED agent ran into the back of his car and he was injured in 2020

you can get sued for stepping in to a bank robbery if the robber then starts shooting. i guess the same as any disturbance.

I haven't been to a mall in about 10 years. I quit going when they became hangouts for hip-hop kidz.

Parking is a hassle, too many people crowding the place, long walking distances, and high prices. A trip to the mall is draining and unpleasant for those with money to spend. Been at least a decade…likely my last visit ever.

People drive around and around the mall parking lots trying to find a space close to the door and then they go in and buy a pair of running shoes. Sorta like buying a membership to a fitness center and then using a riding mower to mow their lawn with. 😁

    a light side mall story

a co-worker and a ex school teacher great fellow his story

way back in early mall days when they were the big thing and popular he took his GF at the time to the mall did the normal walk around getting to know each other

when they went out to his car it was missing OMG panic .. called the police ..( this part is a bit gray as it 30 yeras ago he told me the story ) but for some reason he took a ride with the cop around the mall parking lot then it was another WTH moment when he found his car

seems he had parked on one side of the mall and when he left exited on the opposite side . he did not know they had two parking lots .. he said glad to get his car but it also made him feel like a total fool with his GF seeing him loose his car

It's rare that we go to an indoor mall. If we do, it's to hit a book store. All indoor malls I've seen have always been posted - no firearms. Having a MO CCW license, I ignore those signs.

I prefer the outdoor malls. Branson has a big Outlet Mall which I will frequently visit the Eddie Bauer store for jackets and clothing.

There's also Branson Landing which is another outdoor mall. Has a couple good restaurants plus a small Bass Pro store.
