New policy here?

I noticed this morning the large amount of "closed" posts. They don't seem to be age related or bad behavior so what am I missing here?
Please don't just say "closed posts"
It's too late for me, save yourself.

A member who has been absent for a couple years has returned. In his catching up on the forums, he posted on many posts that have sunk to 60+ pages back. After he posted on them it was decided to close those posts, and let them sink back into history.
All of the posts were over a year old and were dragged up by a single forum member who had nothing better to do. This is NOT a new policy. CaptFun banned members for doing the exact same thing.
I wondered the same thing earlier Jeff, and came to the conclusion below. Guessing it got shutdown early to stop all of the negative comments that usually follow that type of thread. I could be wrong, but I do understand.

It fills the board with topics which have been discussed and settled. Doing this may bring a certain satisfaction to members who have no desire, or who lack the ability to to offer up anything new, but senior members of the staff don't like it. That includes me.
