The final bill came and the grand total for everything was...
The total for June's hospital and doctor bills for her cancer treatment and spine surgery etc etc during the 19 months before she died came in the mail and the total for everything amounted to $1,976,736 bucks and change.
My advice is buy all the health insurance you can afford because that 20% that they don't pay is a killer.
Well I guess "Welcome to Walmart" is in my future now. Don't you guys be giving me a hard time for checking your receipt on the way out. Ha
I almost forgot to mention the scary part is they have not sent me a single bill for my hospital stay where they put in the stents in my heart shortly after June had passed away last fall. I'm certainly not going to call and ask them why. But I know it's coming and they'll be wanting their money in a hurry then.

Your insurance co. should have a negotiated rate that will cut this bill drastically, which in turn cuts your 20%.
That would put your bill close to 400 grand Smitty! 😲
Our medical system sure is a screwed up mess! I don't know if bankruptcy would help but I'd sure look into it.
I need to add some insurance to my wife's medicare plan as well. I have coverage for myself through the VA and just hope that is enough to take care of me.
If you don't have $400K to settle................what are they going to do?
Warm and fuzzy that illegals don't have to pay a dime for anything. Good God, that's a bill. Take me to the woodshed cause I can't pay it.
not only them but countless otherers on the free ride government plan and why working class bills are so high .
as a kid I remember a saying from a lot of the working poor I grew up around . "you cant get blood out of a turnup " when any bills would show up
Well they can't eat me and there's no debtors prison any longer, that is, unless you owe back taxes. I paid a large part of those bills over the 19 months before she died as the bills rolled in. My lawyer is working on it. We'll see what he negotiates on what remains which my name and signature is actually not on any of the bills. As far as estates she had none. The last time she worked outside the home was in January of 1986. She became a stay at home mom and home schooler after that date and her only source of income came from me.
Was there a catastrophic cap on the insurance per year? We had one while my late husband fought his cancer battle. It was capped at $7000 out of pocket per year per person or $10,000 for a family.
Need a place to hide out? I know it's in California but it'll be the last place they'll look for people like youse.
