Do you think this will deter a criminal? They are already breaking the law.

Deter? Most likely not.
However the longer the crook is in prison, the longer he is away from the law biding citizens.
And that is a good thing.

Well at least it doesn't appear to harm everyday non-felon gun owners...
There are already laws on the books, at least here in Michigan, that add a mandatory 2 year sentence for committing a crime with a firearm. Guess what is the first charge dropped when the defense makes its plea? Betcha that is what will happen in Arkansas as well. Bob
Maybe just review why early parole is part of the equation for any crime.
If you are found guilty.
Here is your sentence, good luck.
If it wasn't for lawyers, the crime statistics would be a lot lower.

i knew a defense atty law office employee who always had a personal digital recorder turned on. the clients were L.A. gang members.
That would be highly unethical and likely illegal !!!
I mean, what's the point in a sentence if you never have to serve it? If you know a speeding ticket WILL cost you $500, odds are you will slow down(some wouldn't, most would).
BUT if you knew the fine was $500 AND the judge would drop it to $50, then no body would slow down.
Just sayin.
Shortened sentences should be the outlier, NOT to most common treatment.
recording is legal in TX and many other states. And legal in CA. if for evidence of fraud. Lot of double talk penal codes, like weapons not legal , but legal for self-defense.
legal to record in 38 states and DC. Many diff in each state. you are required to be a party to the conversation , not tapping into others private talk.
