Bought me a coconut in husk
I was at Santa Fe (local Mexican supermarket) there they had a coconut in husk for $3 a pop. Never had them in husk so I was looking them over. Found one that felt heavy so I weighed it. 7 and a half pounds the one to beat. So I weighed a few more and came across one that was 8 pounds. This one did not have the water sound in it. Maybe a thick husked one? Or maybe it's one that's going to "sprout"? I remember seeing Les Stroud eating a sprouted coconut and I thought for $3 I'll chance it.
Now I don't know if they freeze it to kill off the bugs to pass the California Ag inspection (why they would do such a silly thing as this when the border is basically open). Anyways I'll see if it'll sprout. I'll give it a few weeks after that I'll husk it and see. I wonder if I need to keep it warm to make it sprout (you know like an egg)?

Where you live in California yosh, you should just plant it out in your yard. You probably could find out about how to grow a coconut palm tree online somewhere.
I hope it is well on the the way to sprouting, otherwise it may take up to 6 months. Sounds good but not sure I would have the patience. Bob
You could just go to a nursey and get a tree that'll give you a few years head start. We'll all probably be dead by the time that one gets big enough to stand under that is if it sprouts at all. 😉
I had the curse of being stationed on Diego-Garcia in the very early stages. We found that a claw hammer in each hand and drive the claw into the husk with the handles opposite direction and prying upward would pop the husk right off.
No you got me all wrong. I wanna eat the silly thing.
A sprouted coconut has the snow ball looking semi solid (spongy) core for eating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2rXLEORHgk I didn't wanna pay her redonculous price for one. So trying to sprout one at $3 is a bargain.
I went on the youtube trail and I saw you can buy a husked coconut and make that sprout in a Ziploc bag with little water.
had a few as a kid long ago what a pain to peel🤣
Even if you are successful in getting to the meat of one of those things, the reward inside isn't worth half the trouble. That is unless you are starving and stranded on a desert Isle.
Just my 2 cents
mac10 - So was it like they say? Kind a "soapy" or "cucumbery" or coconut flavored cotton candy?
Brookwood - Dude it's a $3 experiment. Also I can eat something Les Stroud does out in the world in the comfort of my home. Besides I have power tools "oug, oug, oug" so sayeth Tim "The Toolman" Taylor.
