New credit card

BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,632 ✭✭✭✭

I think I'll look into this. I hadn't thought about my credit purchases funding the left and if they do, that stinks. This cards cash back is a bit lower than my current cards but if the difference goes to worthy causes, that might be o.k. with me. Not sure what the interest rate is but that is immaterial because we pay it off every month and never carry a balance.

Just thought I would throw the info out there just in case anyone else is interested. If the mods think this belongs in politics, then by all means move it. I just thought more people would see it in GD. Bob

I saw that. I don't use a cc much but I may sign up. The liberals may tank my credit score but I don't care.

I have three credit cards and I don't have a clue what my credit score is. One card has a balance of $283.00, and the second one was $4400.00 and some change when I checked them a few minutes ago. The next payments were due on the 18th or 19th, but I went ahead and paid them from one of my checking accounts. My Credit score is probably low as I have not had a car payment or any other loan in years. I did notice I have a balance of almost $1300.00 "cash back" on one card. The third card is an Amazon card and I get a lot of points on that one that I use on the stuff I order. I like my credit cards and I don't care what Ramsey says, I will not use a debit card.

I agree about debit cards....I do not have one nor do I ever plan on having one. Why take the risk of one and not just use a credit card? I use two cards exclusively (1) a Sams Club mastercard that I use on fuel and Sams' Club purchases (5% savings on fuel) and (2) a Capital One card that I use on everything else. I have as much of my utilities/insurances/etc paid automatically to the Capital One card as possible to earn the rewards. Both are set up to pay automatically from my checking account each month in full.

I use a Chase Southwest Airlines card and an AMEX Delta airline card. The AMEX is for travel, the Chase for my personal stuff. My wife as her own personal card, too. We each pay for our own purchases that way. I got those cards back when air miles were worth something. Since we haven't flown anywhere since The Great Covidiocy, I may look into changing them.

CC companies can donate only from their profit, and since I haven't paid a penny of interest in more than a decade, they aren't donating anything from me.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

When I opened up an account at a local bank, they gave me a debit card. 2 days later I ran it through the shredder. I didn't see any reason to keep it as the chance of theft outwayed any benefit for it.

Frank Abagnale (the "Catch Me If You Can" guy) advises not to use debit cards as they do not have the same protection as credit cards and it is more difficult to get your money back. I had a credit card hacked earlier this year for about $20K and the credit card company quickly covered all of it.
