Hi all, my Name is David. I'm the son of one of the forum memebrs nanuq907. Found this forum today while reaching out to his online buddies to let them know about his passing, details can be found in the thread "where is nanauq"
I happen to be a big fan of guns, and feel like I'd rather enjoy this place, so in honor of him I decided to step into the community and enjoy guns with fellow enthusiast.
Im a firefighter in rural bush Alaska, a little town called Kotzebue above the Arctic circle!
I love hunting and shooting. Have an AR-15, ak 47, 7mm regent, 338, shotgun and a .117 rifles
Handguns: 45 Springfield, 9mm sig 228, bursa .38, .22 and just inherited my father's 44 python!
We Alaskans love guns :)
Pictures are me at work, and my main method of transportation with my preferred bear gun
Anyways, after how I've seen people honor my dad I here, I feel like you guys are people I wouldn't mind getting to know

Ahahahhahahah oh yeah. I hunt with a guy who took down a grizzly with one .223 between the eyes a couple years ago.
Bush Alaska bears see humans as food a lot more easily than the ones in south Central. He noticed the darn thing stalking them, and even after they tried to scare it away, he finally dropped it with one shot
I'm not as good as he is at shooting, one you can never have enough bullets ahahahahha

The best part for me is that he made that very clear to me.

I knew I had to find you guys. My dad made friends with everyone, and it would be super important to him that people knew he wasn't just ditching them.
He made freinds with Ben Affleck once. Dude was in town for the sled dog races.
My dad hears a guy say "we need to find a star bucks"
S being the freindly guy he is, he tells them, "no you want star kaladi brothers" and walks them to the store.
He talks with them for a while, telling them all about Alaska, and when they get to the register, the woman behind the counter nearly faints
She stammers out "you're Ben Affleck" and the "guy" laughs and says yep!
My dad turns around and looks at him for a moment and then goes, "hey, have I seen you in a movie?"
Probably one of the few times Ben Affleck was treated like a normal person, and not a celebraty.
Id like to think Alfleck remembers the big freindly Alaskan from time to time

A father couldn't ask for more than the wonderful words that you've used to describe his life and your feelings for him. He made the world a better place and he has you and your sister to carry on. That is what God had in mind when he created mankind.

Welcome to our house. Come on in a sit a spell. We will miss your dad ,especially his stories about his Landrover . He spoke frequently of you and your firefighting accomplishments. So from one smoke eater to another again welcome .

Welcome. I was stationed up at the Elmendorf AFB way back. Great territory. Your Dad seemed to be a real smart and congenial person. We'll miss him. My condolences.

Looks like it might be pretty good "hop" from Kotzebue and where my son is headed .
They are headed to Fairbanks and North Pole the last week of September.
For what it is worth I still get a wet eye about the passing of your dad.

I'm a gun dealer in Alabama....mother of three adult children and married to someone that has little to do with all the gun ordeals going on here, but adores me enough to not strangle me every day. I grew up in retail gun stores owned by my father and eventually started selling on line as a side gig to do from home, which grew into something that has taken over every inch of space I have and all of my time. Welcome from the "housewife with a hobby."

Loved your Dad's posts!! Already love yours!! Please keep posting pics of the great North country. I was planning to contact your Dad about life in Alaska today since I lived in Alaska back in 68-69. There were questions I had. Wish now I didn't put contacting him off.
My third daughter and her hubby have signed teachers contracts for the 2022-2023 school year for the school district on Kodiak Island. If they have any specific questions I will reach out to you!!

I had shown many of your Fathers pics to my second wife of 23 years and also hails from the far North. (Russia!) I told her of your Fathers passing and the wonderful, loving comments you made about your Dad. I told her none of my five children will ever say so many nice things about me. It's not that I wasn't a good Father, it was I wasn't a great Father. I was reading your wonderful thoughts about your Father and I truly felt envious of what he had accomplished. I quickly realized I came up short.
I could have done better but I came up short. Oh well. Kind of the story of my life.

I would suspect that you haven't done as poorly as you give yourself credit for.
My friend lost his dad a week before mine, and I suspect he was kinda the same as you describe yourself.
And my buddy was devestated. I bet your kids will say the same things, or at least feel the same way as I feel about my dad

Welcome Alaskanfrog, I’m one of your dads friends from Florida. I work nights at Walt Disney World in the tunnel under the castle on animation parts. Your dad and I hit it off as I’m sure you and I will also.

The job is a lot of fun. The guy I replaced was 78 when he retired because the job is not stressful or boring. I am the only person at Walt Disney World that does this job. I actually teach this job to one person from each park around the world. Your dad and I would private message many nights discussing my job or his land rover or his adventures. I was in Alaska two years ago on a trip and I was able to ask your dad questions that I had when I was up there. Your dad asked me a ton of questions about Florida and Disney. I was looking forward to meeting with your dad in the near future when I get to go back to Alaska on another trip. He said he would show me bears on his deck.
