Regarding the blue plastic Luger, my memory has come flooding back and I am now sure it was not Bill's idea or gift. She may have even tried to get me not to play with it but to hide it. Before they got involved, I had not wanted a Luger but decided I had to have a certain gun when I grew up and the ammo box for it said "Luger." I wasn't good about leaping to uninformed conclusions.
