reloading die question

i am not into reloading so i know nothing about it

i acquired2 sets of dies. one RCBS, the other LAYMAN. the RCBS shows 22-250 and the LAYMAN shows 22-250 ACKLEY

what is the difference

    Two different case dimensions. The RCBS dies would be for the standard 22/250. The Lyman dies are for the Ackley version of th cartridge. The Ackley versions of cartridges typically have the shoulder changed to allow greater powder capacity. Rifles chambered in Ackley versions can fire the standard cartridges but not vice versa. If someone has a standard 22/250 the Ackley dies would be useless because the cartridges produced by them won't chamber in his rifle. If someone has an Ackley, he wouldn't want to use the standard dies because of over working the brass and also accuracy concerns. Bob
