The second coming is at hand!! All of you need to get right with the Lord!! A miracle has occured!
So I go out to my mailbox, open it up and take out the American Handgunner magazine and my Duke Energy electric bill. I quickly walk back in the house, sit down at our kitchen table and open the electric bill. Quickly because 90 degrees and high humidity tend to limit my outdoor exposure until later in the evening.
I open the electric bill and the amount I owe is 0.00! Say what?? Look at the bill the second time and it is still 0.00!! So I'm scratching my head and picking my butt trying to make sense of this very strange electric bill. Upon further review I realize they owe me $97.37. Again, say what?? No where on my electric bill is there an explanation of why Duke Energy owes me money.
There has been no power outage or any other occurrence that would affect my electric bill.
I am rating this as a true miracle!! 😋 How far away can the second coming be??

Most likely in the mail later with a corrected bill. Don
Yes and double the correct amount.
Much like a striptease ... Don't ask, just enjoy it !
the meter is malfunction
Quick! Take all of that new found wealth and spend it all on lottery tickets! After all the odds of winning are about the same as having the power company owe you money.😁 Bob
Are you with a co-op? Last four years I have gotten a check from are co-op. Not real big, $80 to $90. Something about I had been with them before a certain date when something changed back before 1992. You would think that they would just take it off my bill, but they send a check instead.
Better than a poke in the eye with a stick as they use to say.
Windfall....😃
I was on Duke power years ago.A huge monopoly in the Carolinas.
We get a check every year from our co-op. Might pay for 1/2 a month's usage, but better thana kick in the nads!
Don't think Duke Power is a co-op
I asked SWMBO if she was all right with the lard, and she snapped back, "Jeez, it's Crisco!"
I was not brave enough to ask about the electric bill after that. We're on an averaging plan so every month's bill is the same. They adjust it once a year.
My part of NC was serviced by Carolina Power and Light. Duke bought them out several years ago. Rates are higher than the co-op whose service starts a mile from my house .
@Rocky Raab are you from the south originally? Lol, right with the lard!
The last time we got a check from our Co-Op, it was over $120. We get one a year also.

Susie, nope, I'm a damnYankee (which is all one word down there). But I lived in the bobble belt for over 15 years. One does acquire some of the lingo over time.
You have been getting an ESTIMATED monthly bill for some time. And they finally got around to actually READING your meter, and said WHOOPS.
When I was a kid we had this BIG window fan that served the whole house. One day we went shopping, left the windows open, and a bad thunderstorm brewed up, turned into a tornado. Wind blowing thru the house made that fan spin backwards- end of the month the power company sent US a check.
dreher---I know that this is and old post but I believe I figured out why you got credit on your bill and possibly have maybe even gotten a check by now. I just received another check today from my power company that is a co-op, so I check to see just what this check was for, account of the government wanting to weaponize the IRS, and to see if it is taxable. It is a capital credit return, it is not taxable, unless you use your electricity as a deduction for your business expense. It is a return of profit margins to the consumer, it is the money or margin that is left over after all the bills and that associated with doing business have been paid.
Butchdog2 is correct. I have 2 rentals in town that use Duke and never get a check. I live 5 minutes away but outside the city limits and use a co-op. I get a check every December. The check amount is tied to your power usage. The thing to do is run all your appliances & lights 24/7 and you will get a bigger check next year.
With your windfall, you can almost buy a gallon of gas!
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
When Dad passed away in 2011 my sister and i split a check from Central Virginia Electric Co. for way over $2,000 because he was a member. Yes, they are a Co-Op.
I just returned from my house in Kent's Store, Virginia after a months stay and working on the property. i ran the hell out of the A/C in that miserable heat and took a shower every night. Received my bill yesterday for $99.
Also, received my bill from Orange and Rockland Utilities in Orange County, NY for $144. I turned every thing off before I left. Most times O&R's delivery charge for elec/gas is two to three times what I actually use. A bunch of crooks. ConEd is probably even worse.
A few years back I asked O&R for a new meter box because mine was badly rusted and they told me to call an electrician. On the other hand called CVEC in Virginia for box and they said sure, come on over to warehouse and pick out one. Really nice folks at Central Virginia Electric Co-Op. --------------------------------------Ray
I remember lard.............
Both my electricity and telephone are provided by a 'member owned cooperative'.
I've been a member of each for a long time. Usually my 'patronage dividend/benefits' covers 1.5-2 months of each year's service.
This same thing happened to me twice.
Both times I forgot I paid the bill and paid it again and had a credit.
Envelope please. And this years winner of the biggest BS'er award is....chme. 😀
My son got a similar bill some time ago. It seems that they were overcharging for some time and got caught wit their hand in the cookie jar. Class action suit got it straightened out.
