New found love for
Hot Pastrami. It had been a long time and last summer we were taking about it at my son in laws friends house. I actually totally forgot what it tasted like. I know its similar to corned beef. So last week I was at one of my favorite grocery stores and decided to buy some. I know its kinda pricey $12 a pound but what the heck. Of course I had to get some Pumpernickel rye some sauerkraut and some Provolone and Swiss cheese. Fired up the old cast iron frying pan toasted the cheese laden bread then pulled out the bread put it aside threw the Pastrami in for a few seconds while the sauerkraut was heating on the side. Threw it all together and topped with 1000 Island dressing. Best sandwich I've had in years and better then the corned beef I was very familiar with. So good in fact I went yesterday and bought another pound. And the Scariest thing was my wife liked it as well.😋 😋 😋

Oh man! A pastrami Reuban is way up there on my list of good eats. If I hadn't just got back from the grocery store, I'd run out and get the fixings. Guess what is on top of next weeks grocery list!😀 Bob
Pastrami is good but I haven't had it in decades? I think I stopped buying when it hit $7.99 a pound? I wonder what it is today in my neck of the woods? Maybe I'll get some after payday?
I also enjoy a good Reuban made with pastrami or corned beef but finding some solid rye bread that is worthy for such a sandwich is unobtainium around my neck of the woods!
The Mother Ship ! ... 😉😍😊
I am from the hills of NC. What the heck is that?
Yellow stuff especially?
Swiss cheese after it has been under the broiler.
One of my sons makes his own pastrami. It's a little bit of work, but it sure is good.
Hot pastrami, fried onions & cheese on rye. Mmmmm Good.
A Reuben is one of the world's great sandwiches. If made in a proper Jewish deli, it would not contain cheese, of course, and the dressing would be Russian. But dark rye, pastrami, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing assembled and grill browned is just divine. The Gentile version adds cheese, and often substitutes the easier-to-get Thousand Island.
There are many variations, some calling themselves Reubens, but are merely pastrami sandwiches. Not that "merely" applies to some of them, mind you. They're all delicious.
properly seasoned ,cooked and steamed fresh and hot from Katz or Carnegie deli's in NYC were among the best in the USA, there are other places where it's prepared correctly and even they they are heads above any that are not fresh made, ie, from the deli/supermarket cold cuts case, reheating this type is ok but does not meet the standards of excellence I have been privy to.
Right Rocky, meat & dairy products - no!
The yellow stuff is 1000 Island dressing the camera got the color wrong.
You know what they say about a hot pastrami sandwich...
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Looks like bull snot😮
Pastrami, cornbeef and a slice of swiss heated lightly in a microwave on rye with dark mustard and horse radish😛
I haven’t found a piece of pastrami that I didn’t like, whether on Rueben or just on sourdough with wife’s hot mustard and jalapeños if available.
