i have a 1953 dom remington 760 in 300 savage. looking for a spare magazine. as you can imagine almost non existence. i was wondering if a 308/243 mag would work. not a very different case size and they are available. does anyone know if one of those would work?

a very definite 'probably'..........it's worth a try
Numrich lists a triple k 10 round that says it fits 243/308 as well as 300 Savage. So if you find an original marked 243/308 I would agree with Mike and it is worth a try. Bob
Fleabay always has a few factory mags in 300 Savage but you need to take a loan out to buy one.
One more for give it a try. I can't see why it won't work.
pretty sure you can also use the 742 magazine , though a 300 savage mag may be just as hard to find.....
after looking at prices for 300 savage mags i decided to take ya'll advice and ordered a triple k aftermarket mag. like i said this is just for a spare. i will post later how this works out. and yes Hillbille a 742 is the same mag.
just to note; while the magazines can be used in either rifle the 742 mags, have a 'hold open' and the 760's don't
I have owned and hunted with 760s for years. I have every caliber made, including 2 .300 savages currently. The 243/308 mags will work, but my experience is that the aftermarket, or one size fits some magazines can be a pain to insert in the gun as they just don't seem to fit perfect and take a little manipulation to get it right. The original mags are out there, but be prepared to pay for them.
