Carter was the fool that caused me to get out of the military with 10 years in. He cut the military so much it was a joke.
By the time Reagan started the build up I was too old to get back in based on the standards at that time. Plus the economy was so bad everyone was joining so made it harder to get back in as they had all that they needed.
Spot on: He became POTUS just after I joined and allowed the military to rot and we just ended the draft. Carter refused to modernize and pay raises were non existent. You probably remember we all lived on draft wages back then, many GIs had part time jobs where they made more than their mil-pay.

We don't have refineries to process the oil even if we got 1000%. It'll just sit there like the container ships since there was no one to unload or truck the containers that were off loaded.
