My nine year lifespan Walmart light bulbs bairly made it nine weeks.

It's remarkable that it has lasted this long, but I bet there have been a few power outages in the last 120 years, so perfectly continuous use is probably unlikely. The one statement in the article about the filament burning is incorrect. The vacuum in the bulb prevents this. If you could make bulbs today that lasted this long, you could make a ton of money until the market became flooded with them and no one needed any replacements. Hmmm..... Maybe that's why my bulbs never last as long as advertised - LED included! My folks had the same 60 watt bulb over the basement stairs for 47 years and it still worked when the house was sold 23 years ago. Wonder if it is still there? Bob

Not about an electric light bulb but I first heard about the eternal flame that burned over the grave of JFK back in late '63. I've often wondered if that flame is still going?

The flame on his grave is still burning . It has needed replacements and repairs over the years. When repairs are done, a temporarily flame is ignited off of the original and later transferred back to the permanent flame .

Here is a great little documentary on “planned obsolescence”.
