Many years ago General Mattis said the Russian people were failing. He meant birth rates were down something to the effect that the civilian population was failing. He didn't elaborate. Yesterday a news show mentioned that the Ukraine war was not about territory but was about bringing new people into Russia, new bloodlines. They didn't elaborate either. Does anybody know what the Russian people (160,000,000) have done to themselves to cause this problem?

Couldn't control the tyranical gov agents so they got rid of central planning. then 20 top gov agents grabbed the Russian assets as republics bolted. Youtube has info. Why not purchase millions of sperm bank donations? That beats war.
Tries to find the Mattis quote and maybe an explanation and found this instead https://georgetownsecuritystudiesreview.org/2020/04/06/russias-people-problem/
With all the democrat city killings we wouldn't be sustainable either without open borders.🤤
If true then there's only one thing to I've got say......damned if the U.S will have that problem, we're letting in boat loads of new blood from around the globe daily 😡

This is not a Russian Problem, this is a global society problem. No generation in history was larger than the baby boomers, Worldwide, Gen X & millennials have both not reproduced globally by an order of magnitude.

It's not 'what the Russian people have done", it's simply the longer term effect of socialism on a primarily agrarian populace.
China sustains it's self by manufacturing and export of manufactured products. This allows the purchase of food resources(or supports foreign food production).
Russia was in big trouble food wise a long time ago if you remember seeing the empty shelves and the long lines waiting for a loaf of bread.
Agriculture does not lend itself to socialism operation. Ag producers don't do well under socialism. The job/work/business REQUIRES that the producer have primary interest in the crop vs just a 'show up and work' job. You can't 'hire a farmer' and even worse is trying to 'force him to farm'.
