Hicoons were raiding the grapes here a couple weeks ago. Went out on back porch to a set live trap, you know, catch and relocate.
Heard something rustle around the corner, low and behold Yogi, about 250 pounds worth, was there just looking my way, the way was about 20 feet. He didn't seem to mind me much as he just stood there and all at once decided to make his move, snorted then here he came, he dashed about 5 feet towards me then stopped. I reached for the door knob which had locked behind me. Yikes. I gently walked to the front door and reached for the bear spray😮, remember no animals were harmed as the rabbit sheriff would not approve. Told the wife to go look out the back window, sure enough Yogi was still there.
Placed a warning spray across his bow and away he went, very quickly.
Hope he got the message that he was not welcome. Bears are fast becoming a big nuisance around here, too many "no hunting" areas and a near by bear refuge.
No SSS here, out of season. Now if it was trying to get in the house, might get DRT. By the way, the back door and siding has big bear paw prints on them from a few years ago.
Kill a human, get off easy, kill a bear out of season, big trouble ahead.
DR, the SSS+S did come to mind. I do have a trackhoe in the parking lot.
Not the first time for bear encounter. Had one raiding the back porch some time back, electric fence fixed his wagon. I saw him put his nose to it, raining right at dusk. Boy howdy can a bear scoot.
I could tell bar tales all night, true ones to.
No need to fuss, when you live in the woods, what should one expect.
As I mentioned earlier I live near many large places that don't allow hunting and the residents sometime put out pikinik baskets for them. Being close to a refuge don't help either. Pretty sure some problem bears get relocated to the area.
