Freezing fresh tomatoes

I made a huge batch of fresh tomato soup and froze most of it. I am thinking of just freezing whole fresh tomatoes. I have plenty of canned tomatoes so I don't need more. Has anybody tried just freezing them for later use in soups and sauces?

We freeze cherry tomatoes all the time. Lay them on waxed paper on a tray and freeze. When frozen seal in a vacuum sealed bag and they make great sauces or soup later.

A friend just told me about freezing grapes. You can eat them frozen or use them in wine instead of ice cubes.
tomatoes, not first choice!
Works well for large tomatoes too.
We freeze all sizes for future recipes calling for canned tomatoes. When you take them out of the freezer, they are easy to peel in a couple of minutes.
Do you core the tomatos before freezing?
