Everyone knows the Mercator maps distort the land masses near the poles significantly. This site shows how places should be truly sized and you can drag to compare at different locales on the earth. I found it interesting which means some of y'all might too. Enjoy.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

MAP people has a different meaning now! 🥺🤮
Yes. Well, I refuse to kowtow to the woke libtards who redefine exactly everything, but let's not get off onto that tangent. Mmmmkay?

Thanks Mr. P.
nice info
I seem to recall way back in school days black board and chalk times not cave drawings like some of you on here 😁
a teacher was showing us similar comparisons about the distortion and only a flat map cut into sections would would be more realistic
and jump ahead many , years maybe 20 + years ago I watched a TV program they explain how maps were made to make Africa and other country's smaller compared to the Americas as a way to make them look inferior
Interesting
Any time you try and put a round world into a flat surface you have to allow for the variations and correct for them. The smaller the surface or area size being shown the more accurate the map. Magnetic variations can and have changed.
Why is it that the image of the US missing Mexico, Central America and South America? It's not like there's a Southern border.
What can be done today with computers is mind numbing!! I started out bring up the U.S., then focused on South Carolina and kept increasing the size until I was looking at my lot, house and garage all positioned correctly! Amazing!
My ex always told me that I was a good map reader because I could really understand that an inch equaled a mile.....
I had to look up Mercator. Never heard that word before. Pretty cool info though. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy learning something new every day. 😉Oak
