Interesting events... a new type of scam? Can't figure it out.

Contacted by a potential "bidder" via the GB message system. Asks a question that was simple and already addressed in the auction description. Then a second follow up email asking if I would review his FFL to see if it is valid. This message had a link attached. Again, it appeared to come from the GB system with the reply being the typical users@GB format. I obviously told him/her that if anyone knew if their FFL was valid it would be him... I did check the link, and it was a malware site. I decided to block the bidder but GB gives an error that there is no registered user with that name... has anyone had this happen?

they do not click on an email link and not even do replies to odd emails. they stay safe.
While I haven't heard of this thing happening with GB, specifically, this type of scam/scammer is not new. Always use your head.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Phishing
Never click on a link of someone you don't know. Even those you do know, treat it with the upmost suspicion (as it sounds like you did).
Perhaps the sender was spoofing as the GB sending email address. You'd have to look at the Internet Header of the email to know for sure This is more likely if you have your email address in plain text in your listing.
Or, it may have been a real registered user that had already done that a few times and got blocked already via GB and that is why you weren't able to block them.
I have had several emails from the guy over the last month asking the same stuff. Gunbroker actually sent me an email warning me about him.
