Somehow.. SS messed up my payments in the past.... Wife wondered what the x tra deposit was this month in the bank... Got a nice windfall from the SS folks and a nice raise a month till the 8.7 raise comes next yr. What a shocker.

Careful there S\F. SS does make accounting mistakes and sometimes overpays. Then, when you least expect it, they make a withdrawal all at once! Happened to a good friend of mine a couple years ago and he was not the financially secure guy that I know you are.

I have nothing but animosity for Social Security. Next year to pay for your pay raise they will withhold SS from the working class checks for the first $160K.

In 2016 that number was $116K.

The more you earn, the more they take & it is a never ending game, where they can change the rules as they see fit.

At the rate I'm going just 2 more years of work and my social security check will just about cover my MediCare premium.

Now that's something to look forward to.

I got a letter last year telling me they figured wrong and were holding a month back. Easy come easy go.

I worked at several different jobs before I settled down to teaching. (including 20 good years in the Army Reserve)

Had to medically retire after 15 years so I only get a fraction of "full retirement" which is relevant because my state's (KY) favorite senator passed a "Windfall Protection Act" or something similar and since I am getting retirement from a non-SS account they cut my SS benefits to about a third of what I'm "theoretically" entitled to receive.

Didn't expect to ever draw SS so I take what little I get and pay some bills. It could be alot worse. ;)

It is called the Windfall Elimination Program. I don't receive enough after they steal their portion to pay for any insurance.
