I have a 1905 parker Brothers double barrel shot gun, most of the blueing is gone on this gun
how much would it hurt the value of this gun by doing that? nice Gun
Thanks

If the shotgun is in good shape other than the bluing it would hurt it quite a bit. How much I can't say but any refinishing diminishes the value of the gun. If it is just a shooter it would not hurt the value as much. One last thing is you might want to check the chamber length if you plan on shooting this shotgun. I have a 12 gauge 1924 parker and it is 2 5/8" chambers as most were back then. I know that 1/8'' is not much but it is still a short chamber.
As above, as a shooter gun, which is what you have won't hurt a thing, maybe increase the value. IMO, but it is correct.
I stand by my comment unless it wasn't "most of the bluing off,".
U.S. collectors are very picky about a gun being "original." Re-bluing would detract from that originality and decrease the value. I think you have three choices:
This gun has excellent bore, good shape over all what do you think this gun would be worth
This gun has excellent bore, good shape over all what do you think this gun would be worth
Doing a search on sold auctions should give you an idea. An unaltered Parker side by side is a very desirable shotgun.
Wolfpack is spot on about searching completed auctions to determine the value. If you have never done this, simply go to the auction home page and click the advanced tab next to the search bar. When that page comes up click completed auctions and enter your search criteria.
As far as doing a reblue on your Parker, I'd leave it alone. Unless you pay the BIG bucks and have Turnbull do a restoration, a normal reblue can cut the value by 30 - 50%. Bob
On fine old American double guns, original is king.
What grade is it? The low grades like a Trojan could benefit from a quality refinish.
