Things you see on the interwebs
I was looking for a definitive explanation for "grade braking active" on my truck to see exactly how it worked. First let me explain that is a gas, not diesel so there is no exhaust brakes. I knew the basics but wanted to confirm the process. When going downhill if you have the cruise set or start to brake the truck will downshift and the rpm's increase to maintain speed or slow down.
Someone on a chat group posted this about active grade braking. If I had been sitting here with anything in my mouth I would have spit it out all over my screen.
Apparently my car has this option....it appears that sometimes when I am rolling down a hill, I notice some strange RPM surge and decrease.
Is that it? If it is...it annoys me :
Here was the reply:
The CTS is probably just trying to help you maintain a more constant speed while going down a hill....saves the brakes.
If you step on the gas, it will go away. Maybe you are not driving fast enough? Floor the gas pedal the whole way down the hill....let us know how it works.

Hard to imagine being annoyed by it.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Going thru the mountains it works well
