Famous comedian for smashing watermelons. I guess sitting in the front row of any of his acts could get a bit messy! Another memorable character from my past has left us.

never really got into his humor, but to each their own.
The wife and I saw Gallagher at the Westbury Music fair / theater in the round on Long Island, in NY many years ago, he was a great comedian and the Sledge-o- Matic skit was an audience favorite.
The Cable and TV appearances we good, but the live show was terrific .
And guess what... no one was offended by anything he said or did.. just a fun evening with endless laughter.
May he Rest In Peace hopefully with his Sledge-o-Matic at his side.
I liked him in his hay day, and as @TANK78Z says he didn't have to resort to vulgarity to be funny. RIP.
He came up with a original act and did well they say his was the first such act to put on cable TV?
I watched him A few times as stated he was one of the few who could be funny with out going to the gutter

RIP sir.....Great memories from my college years...
Made me laugh many times
RIP. One of the great comedians.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
That's what I'm saying,,,,^^^^^^^^^^^ @Mr. Perfect
Thanks- I had never seen that Gallagher routine.
I remember he had that giant couch he'd jump on, part of his show.
