Looking at an old .22 rifle from a private seller. Guy wants/requires a photo copy of my CC permit, I don't mind showing it but giving someone a copy seems a little too much.
Is this common with any of you, am I just being paranoid ?

I would rather give a copy of that than my drivers license.
Depends on how bad you want the .22!
I have actually given mine when I purchased a firearm from someone that I did not know very well....
I can understand the seller wanting a record of who he sells a firearm to, but what does a concealed carry permit have to do with a rifle? As dunbarboyz said though, better than a copy of your drivers license. If I wanted the 22 bad enough, I'd provide him a copy. Bob
Seems strange! Why a CC copy for a rifle? Or as far as that goes even a hand gun?
maybe just me ?
I am willing to show some one I am from the same state in ohio face to face as long as your from Ohio if buying a gun . I even ask to see ther proof to cover my butt but no copys I refuse to give or let anyone make a copy of any of my ID's just to cover there butt . there are way more guns to be found . in place of giving a stranger my info . yes it maybe harmless but sorry my money my rules 😁 this is just my view .
one exception thats for a FFL as its the BS law
the 2nd amendment. it does not say anything about background or ID or privilege its supposed to be a right not a investigation and privilege for the government to keep adding more rules
but do what you want if you feel comfortable
its just to cover the sellers butt to say and prove what happened if any questions come up
Send him a pic on a cell phone. I see nothing wrong with a seller covering his behind.
Some people believe that a CC is the same as a background check. Don
Unless it is a special firearm..move on..
I think Don thinks the seller thinks what Don said, I agree with Don
People are concerned that the buyer may be a bad guy, or not a resident of the same state as the seller. A concealed carry permit goes a long way towards covering that.
I do not know where you live, but here face to face private sales are legal. Potential seller shows you firearm. You look at and evaluate firearm. You and seller agree on a price. You skin your wallet out, and shell out some C-notes. Seller hands you your new firearm, and says "have a good day".
There are tons of nervous nellies out there though.
Guns are bought and sold at garage sales here.
I live in Illinois and when someone wants a copy of my drivers license when shipping a firearm I send them a copy of my Firearms Owners card. It’s required to have a firearms owners identification card in Illinois since 1968. It use to be if I sold a gun as a private citizen to another, I was required to keep a copy of the information on that persons card for 10 years.
These are the joy of living in Illinois.
I live in Florida so private gun sales are pretty much unrestricted with the usual requirements ie. Age, state resident, not a felon etc.
True but shouldn't the seller furnish the same ?? it could be a hot gun for all the buyer knows. If he's willing to furnish I.D then I'm willing, otherwise it's a no-go for me.

+1, my insurance man told me once, right after I had ask him about how hard it was to get a claim on lost/stolen gun, that all I would need was proof of ownership. I had my mom write me a note saying all of dads guns had been given to me, and every used gun I bought from then on I just asked for a hand written bill of sale, something simple such as I Joe smith, sold xyyxyxyxy rifle/pistol/shotgun to me on xyxyxy date. Only had one fellow at a gun show who didn't want to write me one, I told him why I wanted it and what my agent had told me, he was reluctent but did it anyway........
