Those beams are huge!! That big boy was sure eating good. Congrats.
very nice buck
Much better than nice!
Very nice deer there! Personally I do not care for the European style mounts, but thats just me.
Me either, I think one like that would look great as a full head/shoulder mount..
Nice one. Looks like an old buck, he's probably had a lot of close calls in his day!
I have to agree but at around $800 to get one done it's a lot cheaper to go with a European mount
Wow that's a big one!
I'm having the 8 pointer I shot this year mounted on the wall. $400 to $500 is the range for the head and shoulder mount in this part of the world. I'm paying $425. Seemed like a fair price.
Lady here in my area does them for $275-$400. She does just about any type of critter.
I agree with not particularly caring for European mounts. If I didn't want to spend the money for a full head mount, I would just do an antler mount on a plaque.
On a side note, back in ancient times I was a B&C scorer. I loved to see horns like that come in for grading. The only critter I ever scored that made it into the books was a big blackbear, but I came close with a couple of whitetails. From the pic, that one wouldn't come close either but I sure would be proud to have it on the wall. Bob
I chatted a little with the Taxidermist I dropped my Deer head off with. He played with Taxidermy when he was younger then went to a trade school for it. He works at the local concrete company but would love to do Taxidermy full time. He asked me which way I wanted the Deer to be look. This being my 1st wall mount, I said straight on. He said that they look best on the wall looking left or right. I figure he's the expert and went with one looking towards the left.
I asked what he uses for the eyes. He showed me a set of plastic eyes and said the only thing on the mounts that are real are the fur and horns. I kind of got the feeling you could make a small deer look huge by using a large foam mount.
These are the type of mounts he uses:

@drobs I have my two shoulder mounts looking at each other across the room.
