New fuel from CO2 and Water? eFuel

This outfit has come up with a way of making methane for use as an automotive fuel out of atmospheric CO2 and water and they're doing it using wind power to run the machinery involved.
This would really be something if it can be scaled up to provide cheap fuel. As is, it costs $45/gallon. Just a bit on the expensive side.

Yep.......same old song.........just a more modern...woke...verse.
Making lesser forms of energy.......out of much greater forms of energy.
When I was a kid.....I can recall some "genius" claiming to have invented a "venturi/carburetor" that would permit 100 mpg in a 2 ton vehicle.
And the same old con continues.....solar....wind........ethanol.......hydrogen............pixie dust?????
Like my dad said, you can't get something from nothing.
The way I read it it's not a 'something for nothing' proposition. You use a power source, whether it be wind, solar, hydro, or whatever (fusion, anyone?) to synthesize methane from atmospheric carbon and water. It's a conversion of one form of power to a form that can be used by existing internal combustion engines. I'm sure there is some energy loss in production, there always is, but it would burn very clean.
It remains to be seen, however, if it can be scaled up to a point that it can be competitive with fossil fuels. They state they expect $8/gallon by 2026. That would still not be cheap enough to compete with dino gas for me to want to use it. We make technological advances a little bit at a time. I view this as a very positive baby step.
4 more years of Biden and gasoline will be more than $8 a gallon...........
It makes a lot more sense than EV's. Yes you may have to use energy to produce it but the fuel produced will enable vehicles to get fast fill ups instead of hours long recharging. One thing not mentioned is the greenies aversion to methane in the form of cow farts. They consider methane about the worst greenhouse gas and might shut this down over worries about it leaking into the atmosphere during production or transportation. With them everything seems to be an all or nothing proposition. Bob
Explain this to me: The tree huggers (Eco Warriors) are concerned about the amount of Nitrogen released into the atmosphere, when in fact Nitrogen makes up about 78% of air.
So if this comes to pass the complaint will be to much of the next thing is released. Same complaint, different thing.

The greenies(the ones pulling strings) do NOT care about anything they claim, it's all about power!
That said, eFuel could be great IF the cost is low enough as stated above, AND it doesn't damage the vehicles that use it. They claim that MOST gas vehicles can use with with ZERO modifications.
Main benefit would be less reliance on countries that hate us!
If certain people would quit interfering, the USA has more than 250 years of oil available inside its borders. No need to buy from people that hate us.

Think of the trees ,they will take their CO2 that they need😱
Only temporarily. When the methane is burned it will be re-released into the atmosphere.
A pointless endeavour. They may as well be separating Hydrogen from water and burning that.

Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain

@Alpine , I agree 100%. THOSE are the people who use "saving the planet" as a ploy to obtain more and more power!
Competition is always good, unless it's govt mandated competition! If this eFuel works out, because it actually works, then I believe that would be a good thing!
I have multiple ways to get energy and water at my home. This would be one more way to get energy for us. IF it works, and they can make it cheap enough, then it sounds good to me.
FORCING people on wind and solar that does not work, that is a recipe for disaster!
Interesting, but I don't see it as needed or being very cost effective to produce.
Totally agree that we have more oil within our own borders than all others combined. There is NO reason to buy from any where else.
CO2 and water are the primary combustion products you get when you burn a carbon-based fuel such as methane, natural gas, or gasoline. So, they are going to create new fuel from the results of burning previous fuel. Sure, it can be done, but they need to input energy from some source such as electricity, to recompose burnable fuel. It would be much more efficient to use that external energy fuel directly. Otherwise, it is just the latest attempt to create perpetual motion.
EXACTLY.......and......EXACTLY!!!
As I have harped about.......more than a few times.......the so-called experts have tried to use more sophisticated methods to try to convince the lowly "sheeple" population that they can violate the First Law of Thermodynamics........AND get away with it.
Make no mistake.......they do get away with it......"IT" being our tax dollars, and any money that investors would foolishly bring to the table.
Now.....as in the past.....it's just a more modern version of old horse pucky.
Just $0.02.......again.
