Do any of you guys know if Marlin might have drilled these four holes in the left side of the barrel on this 39A
made in 1956??

That one stumps me. I have handled a lot of 39a's and the only scope mounting screws (2) were on the top of the receiver. Having a solid receiver top is what made scope mounting easy vs the Winchesters. Long ago I saw a rifle that had extra holes like that to accommodate a scope so a right handed shooter that was missing his right eye could use his left eye. Worked well at the distance it was sighted for but was off horizontally at all other distances. Hopefully someone on here will have the correct answers. Bob
I have a 39A made in 1953 (K code) and it's not tapped.
Look at a Weaver N mount.
I knew somebody on here would have your answer Ricci. The depth of knowledge on this forum is amazing! Bob
yep N mount side barrel mount
Now thats just crazy! I have never seen a 39a drilled like that, it MUST be a defect. Quick sell it to ME and I will make sure that it doesnt spread to others in your collection! 😁
Thank you, gentlemen. You too mike55.
