We have always had a code word for danger. Even back when the kids were young they are 58 and 55 now! I can't believe it. If either of us sense danger we mention the word in a sentence and we immediately covey up and go to code red. Even today, when we have the great grand kids, we explain it to them . They also know the hand sign for 'Help" if they see it given by another person. We are not paranoid, just prepared.

O.K. guys here is the situation. We are sitting in a booth at Luby's Restaurant in Plano, Texas (get it) when a guy walks in with a gun. My wife sees him and says "Holy Crap Eddie that guy has a gun and he is going to shoot someone, lets run, C'mon kids lets get outa here". The kids think GiGi is trying to trick them and just laugh at her. The perp hears her yelling and shoots her first before I can even react.
Now with our code word which the kids have been taught how to react without question if we ever use it, dive under the table, Julie ducks down and I have my Dan Wesson .357 in hand, looking for the danger. J. is reaching into her purse for her Chief's Special.
But when she called me "Charlie" I knew we were in trouble. I pray to God I never hear her say "pass the ketchup, Charlie"....

I've been to that Luby's in Plano, nothing to write home about... the "mass shooting" took place at the one in Killeen October 16th 1991. Killed a lot of folks.
We have a unique code word at church. If it is uttered, the congregation is supposed to hit the floor (hopefully with visitors following suit), and the security team does their thing. It's sad that it's come to that, but such is today's world.
When the boys were growing up, we had a couple different code words. They were not allowed to go with anyone that did not tell them the Key word, which was "PINBALL"
My wife and I had a code word when we were out in public. Due to my work over the years, I did not want "clients" associating my wife and children with me. I would say "Brake" and they would separate from me and move away as I kept heading towards the person...
This usually happened when out shopping at a mall or different public places.
We also have some code words with the security team at church. Hopefully we will never need to use any of them...

Yes, I agree , but a warning would be nice and Tuko didn't have his family with him to be in the line of fire.
@elubsme A warning would be nice, but this isn’t a nice world. When something like what your talking about happens, it’s going to happen fast, when you least expect it and your going to be surprised.

I know you are correct, but my point was if one of my family members notices something wrong that the others did not, you don't want them to point and start screaming "Gun, Gun," drawing attention to us. I stand by my suggestion. If one of my group calls me "Charlie" which isn't my name or I call them "Charlie", we duck and cover or slowly get outa Dodge.
Yepp.. don't want to draw attention..and get as close as you can if you think something is going to happen...

Ours was 11-99 but we were relaying it to other officers or dispatch, not to small children who may not remember the numbers and, today's thugs have scanners and may know the codes.
