Didn't want to have a thread drift so here's pictures of "Stude" a 1950 2R5 pick up
Stude's come along way since he was the piece of junk sitting in a field. I first saw the truck on my daily walk in town and fell in love with what seemed a dream that could never happen. 5 years went by.... I still dreamed. Parker is famous for never selling anything, but I told him I was in love so he held it on a hand shake till we sold our house in town which would take 2 years.... August 2020 I would actually shake Parker's hand to seal the $3,000 deal. So here we are today. Of course a work in progress...

Growing up we had a '50 Studebaker with the bullet nose & suicide rear doors.
Great story and the old stude has always been a favorite old truck rarely seen

1st one I ever saw was on a vacation 40 yrs so ago In SC. I think it was
I had to look a few times to figure out what it was I liked so much. We were stuck in traffic and it was beside us Long enought to get a better look at it
That’s a nice truck. That’s one advantage of California it looks like, in that they don’t salt your roads in the winter time.
Was there a lot of work to get it running after sitting so long?

Your story reminds me a lot of how I ended up with my CJ3A.
Just about every time I saw the owner, I'd ask him when he was going to sell it to me. It ran good, but the engine was pretty tired, so he mostly stuck around town with it. For several years it was always "sorry, but it's not for sale". I quit asking, but still talked to him regularly. One day it changed to "You know, I might sell it, if I can find something more modern but similar to replace it". Finally one day I see him at the gas station, and he walked up and said "if you still want it, throw me an offer". I said "$2500, and that's genuinely all I have". Done. Not too sure the excitement of finally owning it wasn't what kicked off my high blood pressure.
One set of rings, a set of rod and main bearings, and it ran like new, and took me everywhere as a daily driver for 5 or 6 years. For obvious reasons, and feeling morally obligated to do so, I painted it OD green. My now ex hated it, and said so regularly. The Jeep stuck around longer than she did. In an act of sheer, unfiltered stupidity, I later sold it, and wanting one again now, I can't help but see they've doubled or tripled in price in this area.
Cool old truck.I am always on the look out for a Studebaker Gran Turismo,Hawk or Avanti.
Those were built heavy for their size. Is yours a one ton?

Nice truck. My first car was a 1959 blue Studebaker Lark. I was the only one in high school with one. Cool or loser? Ha!

Sweet looking pickup Lady Rae! We have a 1946 Studebaker ton and a half on my folks place In Montana. I have been going to get-er-goin' for 40 years. I guess I better get with the program as I'm 61 years old now. The last time I remember it leaving the place, My dad took it to Kalispell and bought a load of 5/8 plywood to sheet his shop. That was in 1966 or '67.
@waltermoe it has a Chevy straight 6 engine from a 1969 Chevelle.... It didn't take that long because it was already rebuilt and a friend of our family is an engine specialist.... My mom wouldn't let me buy it till Daniel completely looked it over.... The owner of "The Farm Shop" had to get it out of the field and by the time he arrived at Daniel's house I was wondering what I had done lol Stude looked rustier and really flat rotten Montgomery Wards tires.... But he was mine including 2 seats and 2 tail gates one the wrong year.... Dad will get around to hanging in up someday.

All the old cars and trucks have not rusted to the ground in 10 years
I live in Ohio and Salt and brine are dumped by the countless tons it eats cars like crazy
i have a couple old Camaros but that for another story

slinger, I bought a '53 Champion coupe back in '56 when I was a junior in HS. 6 cyl w/ OD and it got about 30mpg. By '58 I put a 301 mouse in it and managed to get the mpg down to about 5! Loved that car.
I sure hope you didn't bounce down those stairs.

The SBC weighed 540 lbs. Prolly not too far from the six. The Stude V8 weighs 670.
That frame was basically the same through the end of Stude production in '64. 120.5 WB; chassis flex (un)engineered in for comfortable ride. I'll shut up or now.

I knew a guy that seemed like he bought a new Studebaker Hawk every year.
Really nice cars and he would take me for a ride. Think they were called Golden, Silver, Hawks.
I also remember when coming up behind several of the Studebaker pickups, little curls of blue smoke would be coming out of the tailpipe. That is how I could ID a Studebaker pickup before I got close enough to read the tailgate.
