When shooting copper plated 22 lr, do you need to remove copper from the barrel?

Not in my experience. I learned that the wax coated .22 bullets leave a wax coating in the barrel that actually protects the bore. I clean my .22's once a year now, but I don't shoot as much anymore.
Depending on how much you shoot, maybe every year or three.
Yupp....., More 22rf barrels have been ruined by cleaning to often than by being left dirty for a while. I know some match shooters that only clean once a year and then shoot up a couple of boxes of ammo before they enter a competition to get the barrel shooting the way they want it. Bob
I haven't cleaned a .22 bore for many years unless the accuracy degraded. I had an H&R 999 (their best gun) that would develop lead fouling to the point where you were unsure where the bullets were going. It had a little tear in the rifling sticking up which would snag bullets as they went by and rip little chunks out of them. It would even tear cleaning patches. I couldn't think of a way to fix it so I sold it. But that is an extreme example.
22LR barrels rarely need cleaning regardless of the ammo used.
