I'd try to clean it up, for sure. Looks kinda rough.
Still, the steps remain the same. GB, bidding, shipping. With a good description, a clean gun, and some good pics, who knows what you might get for it.

Oil it up clean the bore and list it. No sanding or anything like that. Check to see if it is an antique and you can ship it yourself if not contact an FFL in your area for a transfer. I don't know enough to know if it is an antique.
Oxalic acid to get rid of the rust? Maybe? I mean, I've used it on chrome before and the results were fantastic.

I wouldn’t use acid or abrasives you’ll likely devalue it more. I agree penny auction is what I’d do. Is it a 1858. Converted? You will likely be able to sell direct to buyer due to age if you can prove age
