Any suggestions on removing a stuck outer magazine tube on a Winchester model 1890? Receiver and both magazine tube support rings have had Kroil on them for a week. I did remove the pin too.....

According to The Gun Digest Rimfire Disassembly book: the magazine tube is only held in by the cross pin in the rear tube hanger. Like you, I have never seen Kroil work any miracles on stuck parts. Possibly some mild heat might work, or, a punch in the feed slot.

Note: on early models the tube hangers are twisted to remove. On later models they are driven out to the right. In case you are going to remove the hangers from the barrel. Good luck.

I've tried the punch method. The plastic one's split and the brass one's start to deform the feed slot. Gonna try some heat on the supports and freeze on the tube tomorrow if I can round up all of the needed stuff. Really need some soft jaw pliers, but can't find any locally in my one horse town...

Be careful using pliers, the outer tube can deform if too much pressure.

Figured that since I'd need some way to get a grip on the tube, I bought some soft jawed pliers from Lowe's, and they worked great.

Before I put the heat on them, I thought that I'd try something. I put the pliers perpendicular on the tube, tight, but not tight enough to squish it, and started to whack the side of the pliers. Before long, the darned thing started to move....

While this post is a year old, I still have some valuable insight after a "it happened to me " mistake.

Had a stuck tube on an 1890 from the year 1906. In my excitement to tear the gun down after buying it, the magazine would not come off the gun. I mistakenly used a set of pliers to try and "gently" get the tube out of the hangers. Before I was aware, I had marred the tube. The inner magazine rod will no longer fit and/or function down in the tube, because of the very slightest of dents from the pliers.

    Dumb, dumb, dumb.😑

I removed a nasty dent from a Win. 1873 tube by finding a metal rod that would just slip in and some judicious light tapping with a hammer. It started out ugly but came out well enough that you couldn't tell. Afterward you will probably have to close up the gap where the split line is by careful squeezing in a vise - use thin cardboard for padding.

I would try tapping on the end of the tube with a wood headed hammer lightly before using pliers. I have removed tubes off of 62s and 62A but never a 1890, how ever they’re the same. Now I did read once about, automatic transition fluid and acetone I believe mix that was great for penetrating and breaking things free.

Closing this, the issue was solved over a year ago. No need to beat the horse anymore.
