I was walking into the recruiter’s office in Chesapeake, VA to get an OCS application package.
Amazing how fast the time goes by. Two decades and 11 duty stations later, we’re still going, and Gunbroker Forums were there for all of it! 😁 Good times and good folks!

Having retired from GM for 10 years I was at work at the best job I ever had that Wednesday at Beckman. Retired again the end of 2011.

Heck! Going back just 21 years still puts you in this 21st century. My BEST life seems to belong in the 20th.
All I can say is that it sure goes by FAST!!!!
Afghanistan. I had been there for a while and was suposed to rotate home in March but that got cancelled. I didn't get back until June. Then deployed again in Nov.
Wow! That question put the sentimental thoughts into overdrive!
I was on the east coast, married to my first wife, and thinking about having a kid. Now in Colorado, 2nd wife is a lot better than the first, and my kid is in college making plans for a life of her own.

Thank you for your service, @Frogdog
21 years ago I had already been out of the service for 22 years and was 2 years in to developing my current small "farm/ranch" I believe that was the first year I got a decent hay crop and was 7 years before I semi-retired... only completely retired last year from 30 plus years in corporate America... time flies, enjoy it while you can.
Kind of also my story, except I was out of the service for 27 years and had already been in business for myself 11 years.
Getting my quadriplegic daughter settled in after 4 months in Atlanta's Sheppard Center. Because of her can-do attitude and her mother's helicopter care, she lived much longer than expected.
Passed away this past February. There were over 450 people at her funeral.
It's been rough.
We had just moved into our new home. The next day we got 7" of snow. My wife laughed at me because I couldn't get out to the barn fast enough to get my tractor out and plow the snow.😀

PS. I'm still like that, and she still laughs at me.
Ah, yes. It was a Wednesday. It was raining lightly when I went to get in my truck to go to work, so I was sad to see a flat tire on the rear. It was a Firestone and had developed a slow leak over the past several weeks. Now the nail had come out so it went down fast. As I was putting on the spare in the rain, my wife yelled and said the police had..........Oh, wait! The question is WHERE were you!.... I don't remember.
3 years ago today, LA county was filling in skate parks with sand to keep people from using public spaces.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Working a switch engine, coupling up tracks to make up a train.
It’s wild that Afghanistan deployments spanned nearly the entire 21 years.
Thanks for going and doing your part….both rounds!!
I remember you posting about her. Sounds like a very special and determined lady!
My pleasure, sir. Best move I ever made. I remember standing in the parking lot of my VA Beach office on 9/11 as the jets after-burnered it out of Oceana about 100 feet overhead. Knew right then I needed a more purposeful path. Took a few month’s to get things in order, and off I went.

21 years ago, I was just finishing up my prostate cancer treatments at The University of Pennsylvania .I was only 38 years old and worrying about dying so young with a wife and 10 year old son at home. Made it through, by the grace of God and great doctors. Spent a lot of months home and gabbing on GB. A lot of old members got me through those hard time.
Still honeymooning with my new bride of two years time . Still adjusting to being step-dad to a daughter and son. And loving life
Right here!
I was home, medically retired from teaching due to blood pressure hitting 170/110. Finishing last year of Army Reserve duty before retiring with 20 good years.
I got a contract job as a "Engineering Technician" with the folks running the Stryker IOT at Ft. Knox. Got paid very well to count AA and C cell batteries.🙄
Has it been that long?
I was in the middle of my time working in Court Services, working hard to keep with two boys in High School. Our life was running here, there and everywhere to Track meets, Band competitions and Boy Scout activities. We were real busy then and thought it would never end.....'
My bride and I have talked often about those days.... AND we would do it all over again, because they were great times......
