Lot of memories
When I was younger up to about 23 yrs old or so we had a local track just out side of town maye six to eight miles just a guess its been 40 some years since I have even been by the old place
I spent a lot of time from when I was just a young kid my dad liked to go (cheep place to take the family ) and I had a uncle who loved to race
When I got older me and my buddies hung out ther a lot even raced some
They sold the place to a gravel company who were already surrounding the property
I would guess the track had to be started in late 50's maybe early 60's
Sad day when we got the news
Closest place is 40 or 50 miles away we did make the trip for a while my new wife (at the time )and I , she liked going also.
But it's been maybe 40 yrs since we even went there
So many good times and stories
Sad all my old racing buddies have passed away . But I can't think of racing with thinking of all of them .and of course i miss dad and my uncle on mom's side he loved cars and got me hooked on cars and racing and repairing . Which is hand in hand if you race you break stuff
What do you mean by positing real races. I thought you meant men dressed as women.😊
That Camaro looks bad *.😛
I love the drag strip!
Is that what that blue car is, a Camaro? It's got one heck of a schnozzle on it!
My wife and I used to go to the drag races on Sundays in the summer In Lockington Ohio, probably the same place DR is talking about. In 1965 a buddy and I went to the NHRA Fall Nationals at Indianapolis IN. That was really cool watching the big boys run.
Joe
we go to the Nationals at Maple Grove, in PA, every summer. Fun time watching the big boys. They will be here at Atco, next month
That's it
Was Pences then Shelby dragway
We probably crossed paths may times
They use to bring in the big name and really fast cars for match racing
We went to one about a dozen pro stock cars the track was so bad that day every one crashed or hit the wall
I know they got paid no mater what but was sad to so many cars trashed
My wife and use to go but after going to indy and the nationals many times the locals just were not as exciting .we took our sons to indy they were just little guys to watch the jet cars among the times we went
My first really fall for car belonged to a friend of my uncle
It was a dark green 55 chevy tilt fiberglass nose tinted windows straight axle bbchevy with a tunnel ram and ladder bars a mile long lol
i would love to have it now even
Sorry I get a bit carried away talking about cars and the d drag strips
I still have my old 69 camaro its torn down in my pole barn on a list to do it made a few runs down the track but mostly street racing but on man if that car could talk
Like so much racing big money and sponsorship dominate it
But it's still a big draw for any one in any vehicle wanting to have fun
Fun, cool stuff there alright
Sunday! MAR! Be There!!
