Striped tailed hummer, very common, but seldom observered at feeders. We have ladder back woodpeckers at ours.
We've got that same type of bird here ................ they make great hats.
If you have a red handle on your garage door manual opener, that's likely what attracts the hummies into your garage. Why they can't seem to find their way out is a mystery, but it's true. I removed my red handle and cut the rope back a bit. That protects the hummies and thwarts the thieves who reach the rope with a wire.
There are Youtubes on that issue. Several remedies.
As to the OP, I once had a Bullock's Oriole that would literally perch and wait for me to refill what he had just emptied. He'd hang from the edge of the feeder so that the syrup drained out, and he'd lap it up - what didn't spill, which was most of it. He had the technique and my house pegged. Finally foiled him with a feeder he could hang from. If a bird can scowl, that's the look he gave me the first time he tried.
