The Sig Is a Ticking Time Bomb?
Lengthy and interesting article, with video. Here is the start of the article:
One of America’s most popular guns is a “ticking time bomb” that allegedly fires spontaneously and has injured dozens of cops.
The SIG Sauer P320 semi-automatic handgun is used by some 1,000 law enforcement agencies from the local to the federal level, as well as being a popular civilian purchase.
But its manufacturer is facing a slew of lawsuits alleging that it can fire even when holstered, even when the trigger isn’t pulled, and even when it is just sitting at rest, lawyers allege.
According to the suits against SIG Sauer, some 150 people claim to have suffered injuries, or frightening near misses, when their department-issued P320 went off on its own.
One law enforcement source told The Post, “The P320 isn’t just a gun, it’s a ticking time bomb.”
And one of the attorneys handling the many cases calls the P320 “America’s most dangerously defective gun.”
The Sig Sauer company, based in Newington, New Hampshire, did not respond to requests for comment.

I would wager that MOST of the negligent discharges were just that..... negligence! I saw one body cam footage that claims the p320 went off while holstered. You can clearly see the gun discharge as the LEO was unholstering the weapon! You cannot see his trigger finger, but I bet it was on the bang switch. He was just in a high speed chase, and the offender was shooting......so I know his adrenaline was off the charts. He claimed the gun went off while holstered, which is clearly untrue.....not saying he lied but was confused because the situation he was in.
Sounds like anti gun bs
Sounds similar to trigger assembly on 700 Remington? ----------------------Ray
One problem with this story, this is being pushed by a bunch of lawyers, Sig is wealthy, what is called a deep pocket defendant.
If these shysters know that all these shootings are ADs, or, operator error, they still would sue because they might win a huge payoff.
Never shot a Sig, I don't know but I hear they are good guns.
Here is the link to SIG's voluntary upgrade notice, with explanation , and photos.
I believe this notice dates back to 2017 (??)

Yeah, totally agree with comments thus far
I sold mine, it was a very nice gun, but why take a chance?
The 1st gen Ruger LCPs supposedly had a defect too. They MIGHT go off if dropped on a hard surface. Sent it in for the recall, but DONT drop em and no problem.
Remember that one also
I was at the range with one of my buddies about 20 years ago.He was going to sight in his new just out of the box Remington 700. First round he loaded, the rifle went off as soon as he closed the bolt.It was pointed down range so there was no damage to anyone or anything, but the rifle went back to the factory for repair but he never used it again.I think it is still in his safe.
I'm not familiar with the internal mechanical layout of the P320........but I'd like to know if forgemonkey may have some thoughts/experience on the handgun.
We saw the same old BS when Beretta got the contract 0ver 40 years ago: Lawyers, gold diggers, and whiners
I have owned a 320 for nearly 4 years now. Never a problem. It is another striker fired pistol like the Glock. The only difference is the entire firing mechanism can be removed as a whole unit.
The 320 would NOT be my choice for a sidearm. IMHO the Beretta is superior due to the faster ability to clear a FTF.
From the link I posted above.
