1911 mainspring housing

Question...Why is it that all the "high end" 1911s all seem to come with only a flat mainspring housing as opposed to an arched one like the M1911A1 models do?

There is nothing inherently more reliable of one over the other as far as I'm concerned. It would seem like a matter of personal preference right?

I replaced the stock one with this one on my Kimber Pro CDP.

I believe when they went to an arched back strap it was to enable people with smaller hands grip the model 1911 better. That was one problem they had during WW 1 in the military with people that had smaller hands. It was also around the same time they changed the back strap that they milled the frame by the trigger to help out. As to why they mostly just offer flat back straps now, I would guess, most people that choose to purchase a 1911 today in general have larger hands maybe.
