Just got off the phone with my oldest daughter. Daddies are always supposed to make things...

better, to make the hurt go away. I answer the phone and my daughter is sobbing. The best I could do was cry with her.

My grandson was at the Ohio NW Regional track meet running the 1,600 meters, the top four qualify for the Ohio State Track meet next weekend in Columbus. Jack has a killer last lap to finish his race. My daughter said he was positioned perfectly, went up on his toes to pass the only two ahead of him and he got bumped and went down.

He landed on his knee. At this moment he is trying to loosen up his knee to run the 800 to try and make the State meet for the third time, 10th, 11th and 12th grade but it doesn't look good.

Athletics builds character but sometimes that character building can be painful.

Well dang it. Sounds like quite the athlete, hope he is able to bounce back quickly. Best wishes for him.

Happened to me twice. First in the Virginia State Cross-Country meet (bumped and fell hard at a creek crossing). Again, later that year at the State track 3200m final. In that one, I got spiked to the bones on the top of my foot, fell, and finished with one shoe. Was a contender to win both races, but couldn’t catch back up to better than 6th.

Point is……he’ll be fine. I promise that when he’s 45, he’ll just laugh about it as an interesting memory…..and be happy if he can still run without feeling like a jalopy.

Several years back my Daughter gave me a plaque for Christmas. It says "IF DAD CAN'T FIX IT, WE'RE ALL SCREWED".

No truer words were ever spoken.

Very true in the past but in todays world with the drop in testosterone levels it's hard to determine which parent the "Dad" is. Seldom now do I ever see a "Dad that can fix anything. My Grandma had a saying "if a man can't reach the top shelf in a cabinet for a woman he ain't worth having around"......🤔.

    This I agree with 100%......👍️
