I have a Winchester 490 that has not been back to Winchester for its recall what can I do

You might contact the current Winchester folks and ask them. Don't get your hopes up because the 490 hasn't been made since 1976 or sold since 1980. I bought three of these when a distributor was closing them out in the early 80's for, if I remember correctly, $60 each. Still have one around here somewhere.
Mine were obviously late production and no recall necessary. I guess the early ones would very rarely slam fire and double when the trigger was pulled. Unless yours has done this, to me it wouldn't be a worry. Good luck with it. Bob
