My Mom turns 85 next Wednesday. I will be there to celebrate this exciting milestone with her and family.
I have read several threads and comments about Chili. I am making Chili the way my mother, an excellent cook by the way, has made it since I was a child. She made chili with fresh tomatoes and other fresh ingredients. It contained Fresh ground beef, usually ground chuck or sirloin and of course kidney beans.
Are some of you claiming she has made Chili incorrectly for almost 70 years? Should I tell her the error of her ways on her birthday? If real Chili does not have kidney beans then what do you call it if kidney beans are part of the recipe?
I await your sage wisdom and input.

That is exactly the recipe I grew up with and how my wife makes chile today. I don't remember how chile was served when I was stationed on the South Texas border. I was too busy eating enchiladas.

Chili beans are a must. I like to add pinto beans as well.

As a kid I only knew chili was made one way. Which included Beans and hamburger it may not have been the pc way but we' all survived
The recipe I used for selling chili in my concession trailer had kidney beans.
I got compliments on the chili even from some Texans.
Always helped that it was made fresh that day.

When the South asked the North for the recipe for chili, it was gifted to them on their birthday and it contained beans, chili beans. What happened to the recipe since then is just a guess.
